CHIHEI HATAKEYAMA
Sound engineer and musician Chihei Hatakeyama was born in Tokyo in 1978 where he started playing the electro guitar during his teens before swapping it for a laptop to create music. He went on to perform for years with the other half of Opitope, the electro-acoustic duo Hatakeyama founded with Tomoyoshi Date.
Releasing his first solo album Minima Moralia from the leading ambient and post-rock record label Kranky; Hatakeyama polychromed memory-evoking soundscapes with recorded materials of acoustic instruments such as guitars, vibraphone, and piano played by hand, and processed to create what he called experiments on silence.
Ever since, Hatakeyama released countless records from prominent music labels like Room 40, Under The Spire, Hibernate Records, Constellation Tatsu. Carrying his music to a new level with analog and modular synthesizers and guitar effectors; the sound artist will be creating a truly meditative setting with his minimal set accompanied by slowly progressing ambient drone sounds at the Bezirhane.
