THE DWARFS OF EAST AGOUZA

The Dwarfs of East Agouza is a trio from Cairo, Egypt featuring Maurice Louca from Alif, Sam Shalabi from Land of Kush, Shalabi Effect and Alan Bishop from the legendary experimental outfit Sun City Girls. They started experimenting together when Alan moved to live in the same apartment in Cairo’s Agouza district in 2012. The trio’s instrumental explorations are shaped by Louca’s North African percussion loops Shalabi’s West African guitar and grounded by Bishop’s driving Krautrock-style acoustic bass.

The Dwarfs named their debut album after the ancient Egyptian god Bes -protector of good and enemy of evil. Bes ended up being featured in Wire Magazine and The Quietus as one of the best albums of the year.
