GIGI MASIN
A pioneer of Italian radio DJing, Gigi Masin has been making music since the ’70s and is considered the father of turntablism in the Italian ambient-electronic music scene. His 2017 album Talk To The Sea is a culmination of his 30-plus-year musical career. Since his 1986 debut, Wind, Masin has gone on to record numerous albums and put on countless performances; he’s also had numerous songs covered and sampled (as was the case with Björk’s “It’s In Our Hands”) by artists like Rococo Rot, Attrakionz, Friendzone, Moomin, and Revelse. Masin has also recorded albums with the ambient supergroup Gaussian Curve, which features the Italian duo Tempelhof as well as Young Marco and Jonny Nash.
Masin has managed to stand the test of time in the contemporary music scene, and you’ll often find him listed in the lineup of European festivals such as the Strøm Festival in Copenhagen, or playing concerts in venues such as the ICA in London and Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam. Fans will also want to check out Masin’s 2017 remix of Devendra Banhart’s track “Linda” as well as his series of art videos created with photographer and illustrator Luis Filipe Cunha.
